Trading volumes on the Colombo Stock Exchange picked up momentum yesterday, buoyed by easing international fuel prices that lifted investor sentiment across the market. The All Share Price Index advanced 67.97 points while the S&P SL20 index gained 8.30 points, reflecting positive movement in both broad-market and blue-chip segments.
However, market turnover remained constrained at Rs. 1.4 billion, suggesting that while sentiment improved, investor participation remained measured. Analysts attributed the improved market tone to moderating global crude prices, which have been a key concern for Sri Lanka's import-dependent economy and corporate profitability.
The dual movement of rising indices coupled with subdued turnover indicates selective buying among investors, with market participants appearing cautious despite the technical improvements. The easing of international energy costs could provide some relief to fuel-intensive sectors and potentially support broader economic sentiment in coming sessions.
