CSIR-CCMB scientist Umapathy elected to Indian National Science Academy

Govindhaswamy Umapathy, Chief Scientist at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad, has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), a prestigious recognition of scientific merit and contribution to the nation's research landscape.

Umapathy's election reflects his substantial body of work in advancing understanding of wildlife health and conservation through scientific inquiry. His research has contributed significantly to knowledge areas critical for biodiversity preservation and animal welfare across the Indian subcontinent.

The Indian National Science Academy, established in 1930, recognizes scientists who have made outstanding contributions to scientific knowledge in India. Fellowship represents one of the highest distinctions in the Indian scientific community and is awarded to scientists demonstrating exceptional research achievement and national importance.

Umapathy joins a select group of researchers acknowledged for their role in strengthening India's scientific capabilities. The CCMB, one of India's premier research institutions under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), conducts research across cellular and molecular biology with applications spanning health, agriculture, and environmental sciences.
