The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research's Central Institute of Food Technology (CSIR-CFTRI) has commissioned a newly constructed integrated oilseed processing unit at its premises. The facility represents a significant step forward in modernising oilseed processing capabilities within the country's research infrastructure.
The integrated unit combines multiple stages of oilseed processing, from initial preparation through extraction and refining, within a single operational framework. The installation of advanced machinery and processing equipment is designed to optimise yields while maintaining product quality standards throughout the production cycle.
CSIR-CFTRI, based in Mysore, has developed the facility to bridge the gap between laboratory innovations and large-scale industrial applications in the oilseed processing sector. The unit is expected to facilitate research into improved processing techniques and support technology transfer to the industry.
The initiative aligns with India's broader objectives to strengthen domestic oilseed production and reduce dependence on imports. The facility will enable researchers to conduct trials on various oilseed varieties and develop cost-effective, sustainable processing methodologies suitable for small and medium-scale enterprises across the country.
Officials indicated that the integrated processing unit will serve as a training and demonstration centre for industry professionals, agricultural scientists, and entrepreneurs seeking to enhance their operational capabilities in oilseed processing.
