Cyberabad authorities crack down on illegal construction after building collapse
Following a deadly building collapse in Gachibowli, Hyderabad's civic body has ordered the demolition of unauthorised structures under construction across the jurisdiction. The crackdown will target both small plots with excessive height and larger parcels being built without permission.

The Cyberabad Commissionerate has launched a comprehensive enforcement drive against illegal construction activities in the wake of the Gachibowli building collapse that claimed multiple lives. The civic body has identified two categories of unauthorised structures for immediate demolition, signalling a hardened stance on flouting building regulations.
Structures on plots measuring less than 75 square yards where construction has exceeded seven metres in height are among the primary targets. Additionally, buildings on plots larger than 75 square yards that are being constructed without any sanctioned building permission will be identified and demolished.
The enforcement action represents an attempt to prevent a repeat of the structural failures that have plagued Hyderabad's rapidly expanding urban landscape. Authorities have begun systematic surveys to catalogue illegal construction sites across Cyberabad's jurisdiction.
The drive underscores mounting pressure on municipal authorities to tighten building code compliance and safety standards. Officials have directed departmental teams to expedite inspections and issue demolition notices to builders found in violation of construction norms. The operation is expected to continue over the coming weeks as authorities work to eliminate unauthorised structures posing public safety risks.
