Cyclone Arnab: Eastern States Mobilise as Storm Approaches Landfall

Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are bracing for the arrival of Cyclone Arnab as meteorological agencies monitor its trajectory toward a possible landfall in the coming days. The Konaseema–Yanam–Kakinada coastal belt and surrounding regions remain under close observation, with state authorities implementing comprehensive evacuation and safety protocols.

The National Disaster Response Force has strategically positioned 15 teams across vulnerable areas to respond swiftly to emergencies and assist in relief operations. State disaster management agencies have been coordinating with civil administration to ensure evacuation routes are clear and shelters are adequately stocked with provisions.

Healthcare authorities have identified over 3,000 pregnant women in cyclone-prone areas and placed them under intensive monitoring. Medical teams have been instructed to ensure these vulnerable patients have access to emergency obstetric care facilities, with provisions made for safe evacuation to well-equipped hospitals if required.

State governments have issued advisories urging residents in coastal and low-lying areas to move to designated cyclone shelters. Fishing communities have been warned against venturing into the sea, while authorities have secured loose structures and trimmed overhanging branches in residential areas to minimise cyclone-related damage.

As Cyclone Arnab continues its northwestward movement, both states remain on high alert with round-the-clock monitoring by the India Meteorological Department. Updates on the cyclone's intensity and expected landfall timing are expected in the coming 24 hours.
