Cyclone Arnab intensifies; severe weather, transport disruptions expected

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Yanam are bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 27 and 28 as Cyclone Arnab moves across the region, according to weather forecasts. The storm system is expected to intensify to 'very severe' cyclonic status, with significant precipitation also anticipated over Odisha on October 28, followed by Chhattisgarh on October 28 and 29, and East Uttar Pradesh on October 29.

State authorities have taken precautionary measures ahead of the cyclone's arrival, with school closures announced in vulnerable districts and transport authorities suspending train services on key routes. Emergency management officials have been placed on high alert to respond to potential flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

The cyclone's trajectory is expected to carry it inland after making landfall, with the intensity of rainfall diminishing as it moves away from coastal zones. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain indoors during peak rainfall periods and to heed warnings issued by local disaster management authorities. Power supply disruptions and communication challenges are also anticipated in severely impacted regions.
