Cyclone Arnab has strengthened into a very severe cyclonic storm and poses a significant threat to India's southeastern coast. The system is forecast to cross the Andhra Pradesh coastline near Yanam, located between the districts of Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, on October 28 with maximum sustained wind speeds of 125-135 km/h.
The storm's intensification marks a shift toward more dangerous conditions in the region, with authorities closely monitoring its trajectory and projected impact. State and central disaster management agencies have begun coordinating preparedness measures ahead of the anticipated landfall.
Fishing communities bear particular risk from the approaching cyclone. The India Meteorological Department has issued an urgent advisory prohibiting fishermen from venturing into the sea until October 30, covering the Bay of Bengal and surrounding coastal waters. Fishermen already at sea have been advised to return to shore immediately and seek shelter.
The coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh are implementing precautionary measures including the preparation of cyclone shelters and evacuation plans for vulnerable populations. Residents in low-lying and storm-surge-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow official guidance from local authorities.
