Cyclone Murasu intensifies over Bay of Bengal, set to strike Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday that a depression brewing over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened and is tracking towards the Indian mainland. The system, named Cyclone Murasu, is expected to intensify further over the coming days as it approaches the eastern coast.

According to IMD forecasts, Murasu is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast as a severe cyclonic storm between Nellore and Narsapur on November 3. The cyclone is expected to bring wind speeds of 100 to 110 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph in the affected areas.

The Andhra Pradesh coast, including the districts of Nellore and Narsapur, faces the primary threat from the cyclone's landfall. Authorities in the state have been advised to take precautionary measures and prepare relief operations ahead of the expected impact.

The IMD is continuing to monitor the system's movement and intensity. Coastal communities and maritime traffic in the Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain alert and take necessary safety precautions in preparation for the cyclone's arrival.
