Cyclone Murasu commenced its landfall process near Ongole around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, bringing destructive weather conditions to Andhra Pradesh's coastal regions. The system is generating sustained winds of 110 to 120 kilometres per hour accompanied by torrential rainfall across the state's littoral areas.
The cyclone's impact is being felt most severely in Bapatla, Krishna, and Prakasam districts, where authorities have issued flood warnings for low-lying areas. Meteorologists are monitoring storm surge activity, with waves reaching heights of one to 1.5 metres, which poses additional inundation risks to vulnerable communities in these districts.
Disaster management teams remain on high alert as the system is expected to maintain its intensity over the next 12 hours. Heavy precipitation and gusty winds are forecast to continue across affected coastal zones, with authorities advising residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing into hazardous conditions. Power supply disruptions and infrastructure damage have been reported in several areas as the cyclone sweeps through the region.
State authorities have mobilized emergency response teams and relief resources in anticipation of further deterioration. Coastal fishing communities have already been advised to remain ashore, and shipping services along the affected coast have been suspended.
