Cyclone Murasu weakens; two dead as Andhra Pradesh assesses damage

Cyclone Murasu continued its weakening trajectory on Monday as it moved away from the Andhra Pradesh coast, the IMD reported. The severe cyclonic storm, which made landfall over the state, is expected to gradually lose its organized structure and transform into a deep depression before further degrading into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.

The cyclone's passage across Andhra Pradesh resulted in at least two fatalities, while leaving a trail of destruction across multiple districts. Infrastructure facilities, including roads, power lines, and public utilities, sustained significant damage. Agricultural areas across the state bore the brunt of the weather system, with widespread crop damage reported in affected regions.

Despite the cyclone's weakening phase, the IMD has forecast continued rainfall across parts of Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain vigilant as residual moisture from the system continues to impact local weather patterns.

State authorities have launched damage assessment operations to evaluate the full extent of losses. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway in the most severely affected areas, with officials coordinating response measures across multiple districts.
