Cyclonic storm Arnab is tracking toward the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, with meteorological agencies forecasting a very severe cyclonic storm classification at landfall. The system is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coastlines between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam with maximum sustained winds of 115-125 kilometres per hour, with gusts potentially reaching 140 kilometres per hour.
State governments in both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have placed coastal districts on high alert, mobilizing disaster management teams and emergency response personnel. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and heed evacuation orders if issued by local officials.
Meteorological departments are continuously monitoring Arnab's trajectory and intensity. Heavy rainfall is anticipated across coastal regions and adjoining areas, with potential for flooding in low-lying zones. The cyclone poses significant risks to fishing communities, with maritime authorities recommending that fishing vessels return to harbours and avoid venturing into the Bay of Bengal.
Disaster management officials have activated relief camps and stockpiled emergency supplies including food, water, and medical provisions across affected districts. Power distribution agencies have initiated precautionary measures to mitigate infrastructure damage and ensure rapid restoration of services following the cyclone's passage.
