CALAPAN CITY — Provincial officials conducted an inspection Wednesday of a damaged protection dike in Barangay Arangin, Oriental Mindoro, following significant deterioration caused by surging waters from the Bagto River. The breach of the structure, which normally shields the village from flooding hazards, has raised immediate concerns about community safety, the Provincial Information Office said.
Strong currents eroded a substantial section of the dike, undermining its ability to contain seasonal water overflow that threatens nearby residential and agricultural areas. The damage was reported to provincial authorities, prompting a rapid response from engineering officials tasked with assessing the extent of structural compromise.
Provincial engineer Edylou and other technical personnel conducted the on-site inspection to evaluate repair requirements and timeline for restoration work. The assessment will inform decisions regarding emergency reinforcement measures or temporary protective barriers needed to safeguard residents through the remainder of the rainy season.
Local government units are coordinating with provincial offices to develop an action plan addressing the vulnerability. Officials have not yet announced specific details regarding repair schedules or resource allocation for restoration efforts.
