Dangerously high heat index recorded in Laguna and Batangas

The Philippine archipelago's CALABARZON region sweltered under oppressive conditions on Thursday as municipalities grappled with dangerously elevated temperatures. Talisay, Batangas recorded the region's highest heat index at 41 degrees Celsius, while neighboring Calamba City in Laguna registered 40 degrees Celsius, according to readings taken on October 22.

The extreme heat prompted local disaster management authorities to mobilize public health guidance. The Talisay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council issued precautionary advisories to residents via social media, urging them to adopt protective measures to mitigate heat exposure risks.

Health officials typically recommend that residents during extreme heat events limit outdoor activities, increase water intake, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and remain vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion. Vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing medical conditions face heightened risks during such thermal events.

The high temperatures serve as a reminder for communities to maintain preparedness protocols during periods of extreme weather, particularly as climate patterns continue to shift across Southeast Asia.
