Danish enzyme maker Novonesis to invest ₹6,600 crore in Maharashtra facility
Novonesis, a Danish biosimilars producer, will invest ₹6,600 crore to expand its enzyme manufacturing plant in Patalganga, Maharashtra over the next four years. The expansion aims to tap into growing demand from emerging markets across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

The Copenhagen-headquartered company announced the investment on Wednesday as it seeks to strengthen its footprint in high-growth regions. The expanded Patalganga facility is expected to become fully operational by 2030 and will produce enzymes for multiple sectors including biofuels, household care, and food and beverage industries.
Novonesis President and Chief Executive Ester Baiget highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, noting that emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa, India, and South Asia represent a significant and expanding portion of the company's business portfolio. "These markets are expected to grow faster than developed markets in the coming years," Baiget said.
Chief Operating Officer Anders Lund said the Patalganga expansion will position the company closer to its customer base while enhancing operational resilience, efficiency, and supply chain flexibility. The move underscores Novonesis's confidence in the long-term growth trajectory of enzyme demand across Asia and emerging economies.
