DAP grassroots defend Rayer over Perlis temple row
Party members push back against criticism of the Selangor menteri besar's call for dialogue on the controversial temple demolition. They insist advocating negotiations does not undermine the rule of law.

Democratic Action Party grassroots leaders have rallied to the defence of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari following backlash over his response to the Perlis temple demolition controversy.
The party members countered critics who suggested that Amirudin's call for negotiations represented a rejection of legal principles. They maintained that seeking dialogue on the sensitive issue was a separate matter from respecting established legal frameworks and constitutional authority.
The Perlis case has sparked significant debate in Malaysian political circles, with various stakeholders weighing in on how such religious and constitutional matters should be handled. DAP supporters emphasised that advocating for discussions between relevant parties did not equate to circumventing proper legal procedures.
The controversy underscores ongoing tensions within Malaysia's multi-ethnic and multi-religious society regarding the intersection of state authority, religious matters, and communal harmony. DAP grassroots activists stressed the importance of distinguishing between legitimate calls for dialogue and any implied challenge to the rule of law in their defence of the party's position.
