DAP lawmaker defends transport minister's vehicle plate sale scheme
A DAP member of parliament has pushed back against critics of Transport Minister Anthony Loke's initiative to sell special vehicle registration numbers, arguing the revenue supports vulnerable transport sector workers.

Howard Lee said the proceeds from the sale of premium vehicle registration plates are being channelled to assist taxi drivers, car rental operators and school bus services. The DAP politician's remarks come as the scheme has drawn scrutiny from various quarters over concerns about its implementation and impact. Lee emphasised that the initiative serves a broader social purpose beyond generating government revenue, with funds allocated to support workers in the transportation industry who have faced economic challenges. The special registration plate programme, unveiled under Loke's purview at the Transport Ministry, aims to provide targeted assistance to these groups while creating an additional revenue stream for the government. The initiative reflects the administration's approach to balancing commercial opportunities with social welfare considerations within the transport sector.
