DAP lawmakers face re-nomination risk over performance standards
The Democratic Action Party is implementing stricter evaluation criteria for its elected representatives, with underperforming lawmakers at risk of being dropped from future candidate lists. The assessment framework measures community service delivery, grassroots engagement, party-building efforts, and consistent constituent outreach.

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has signalled it will not automatically renominate underperforming representatives who fail to meet established key performance indicators (KPIs), intensifying internal accountability measures within the opposition coalition partner.
The party's evaluation system assesses elected officials across multiple dimensions including the quality of service delivery to constituents, implementation of grassroots activities within their constituencies, efforts to strengthen party infrastructure, and commitment to regular community engagement. These metrics are designed to ensure lawmakers maintain close ties with voters and contribute meaningfully to party development.
The KPI-based assessment represents a significant shift in candidate selection methodology, moving away from seniority-based considerations toward merit-driven evaluation. Party officials have made clear that performance deficiencies in any of these key areas could disqualify incumbents from re-nomination in future electoral cycles.
The initiative reflects broader pressure within opposition parties to strengthen internal governance and demonstrate responsiveness to constituents. By establishing transparent performance benchmarks, DAP aims to address voter concerns about parliamentary accountability while maintaining competitive advantage in contested constituencies across the country.
