Chong Zhemin, the DAP representative, submitted the complaint to the MACC regarding the RM2.1 billion variance in the Kementerian Kerja Raya Development programme, according to sources familiar with the matter. The discrepancy between budgeted allocations and actual expenditure on the rural road infrastructure project has raised questions about financial management and oversight in the programme's implementation. Zahid Hamidi, who holds the transport portfolio in addition to his role as Deputy Prime Minister, has been identified as a key figure whose involvement the MP has asked the anti-corruption body to examine. The complaint follows growing scrutiny of government spending on major infrastructure projects, with opposition lawmakers increasingly calling for transparency in public fund management. The MACC has not yet responded to requests for comment on whether it will formally investigate the matter. Sources indicate the probe would focus on whether proper procedures were followed in the allocation and utilization of funds earmarked for rural road development across Malaysia's regions.
