The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has confirmed its intention to field candidates across seven constituencies in the Kuching area during the forthcoming Sarawak state elections, signalling the party's commitment to expanding its presence in the state capital region.
Beyond its confirmed seven seats, DAP is exploring the possibility of contesting the Batu Lintang constituency, which has remained under the control of the People's Justice Party (PKR) since 2011. However, no final decision has been made regarding the seat at this stage.
DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen indicated that while the party is assessing options in Batu Lintang, PKR has not yet formally indicated whether it intends to participate in the upcoming Sarawak elections. This uncertainty has left the door open for DAP to make strategic decisions about its seat allocation.
The party's move to contest multiple constituencies in Kuching reflects its broader electoral strategy ahead of the state polls, positioning itself as a significant player in the competitive political landscape of Sarawak's largest urban centre.
Official candidate nominations and final seat allocations are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the election date approaches.
