DASMARIÑAS CITY — Heavy rainfall did not deter voters in Dasmariñas City from participating in Saturday's special election to fill the congressional seat for Cavite's 4th District.

The special poll was conducted to elect a representative to replace former lawmaker Francisco 'Kiko' Barzaga, who was expelled from the House of Representatives in June. Election officials reported that voting proceeded despite challenging weather conditions throughout the day.

The special election represents a significant political development for the district, which has been without full congressional representation since Barzaga's expulsion. Residents were given the opportunity to directly choose their replacement representative through the special balloting process.

Election officials were expected to announce results following the completion of vote counting procedures. The outcome will determine congressional representation for the district through the remainder of the current legislative term.
