Davao City Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte filed libel and cyberlibel complaints Friday against several individuals, a television network, and media personnel over allegations he characterized as fabricated and defamatory. Duterte personally appeared at the Davao City Prosecutor's Office to lodge the cases seeking P20 million in damages. The complaints target the National Bureau of Investigation chief among others, according to documents filed. Duterte contested the bribery allegations as untrue and stated they were intended to undermine his public standing and political career. The congressman's legal action marks an escalation in a dispute involving senior government officials and media organizations. The cases are now under review by prosecutors who will determine whether sufficient grounds exist to pursue criminal charges against the respondents.
