Davao flood control project reaches 80 percent completion milestone
A P100 million flood mitigation initiative in Davao City is nearing completion, with construction now 80 percent finished after two months of work. The project aims to prevent a repeat of July's devastating Talomo River overflow that caused severe flooding.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the flood control project in San Juan Village, Barangay Bangkal on Monday, confirming substantial progress on the critical infrastructure initiative. The project has advanced significantly since construction commenced, with officials attributing the rapid pace to coordinated efforts between national and local agencies.
The flood mitigation work was triggered by the July 24 overflow of the Talomo River, which inundated several communities following heavy rainfall. The incident highlighted the urgent need for improved flood management infrastructure in the densely populated barangay, prompting the Department of Public Works and Highways to fast-track the P100 million intervention.
With construction approximately four months ahead of completion based on current progress rates, the project is expected to significantly enhance the area's flood resilience. Once finished, the facility will incorporate modern water management systems designed to handle extreme weather events and protect residents from seasonal flooding hazards.
Local officials have emphasized the importance of the project for community safety and economic stability. The completion of the flood control system is anticipated to provide long-term protection for San Juan Village and surrounding areas, reducing vulnerability to future overflow incidents during the monsoon season.
