DBKL warns residents after motorcycle filmed inside PPR lift

KUALA LUMPUR — The incident, which circulated widely on social media, prompted City Hall to reiterate safety guidelines for the use of common amenities in Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) residential complexes across the capital.

DBKL emphasized that elevators in public housing facilities are designed to accommodate residents and their personal belongings within specified weight and size limits. The use of motorised vehicles inside lifts poses serious safety hazards, including potential damage to lift infrastructure, risk of entrapment, and danger to other residents.

The authority called on delivery riders and residents to use alternative means of transporting goods, such as designated loading areas and service facilities available at most PPR blocks. DBKL also urged the public to report any misuse of common amenities to building management or directly to the city authority.

This warning follows growing concerns about the treatment of shared facilities in affordable housing schemes, where wear and tear from improper use has necessitated costly repairs and maintenance.
