DDA Parks Critically Lacking CCTV Coverage, Audit Reveals Security Gaps

A security audit of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) parks has raised serious concerns about public safety infrastructure, revealing that just 2.2 per cent of the 736 parks under the authority's management have functional CCTV systems. The assessment was triggered following a sexual assault incident at one of the facilities, leading officials to conduct a comprehensive review of security measures across all public parks in the capital.

The audit classified parks into three risk categories based on location, usage patterns, and existing infrastructure. Of the total parks surveyed, 190 were designated as high-risk zones, 258 as medium-risk areas, and 288 as low-risk facilities. The high-risk parks, typically those in densely populated areas with significant foot traffic and limited visibility, remain particularly vulnerable due to inadequate surveillance coverage.

The findings underscore a critical gap between the infrastructure required for adequate public safety and what currently exists. With only 16 parks equipped with CCTVs, the vast majority of DDA facilities lack even basic video monitoring capabilities. The audit results have prompted calls for urgent action to enhance security across all parks, particularly in high-risk zones where visitors are most vulnerable.

Authorities have indicated that the audit will serve as a baseline for developing a comprehensive security enhancement plan. The review comes amid growing public concern over safety in shared public spaces and increasing pressure on civic authorities to implement preventive measures that can deter criminal activity and aid in investigations when incidents occur.
