De Lima links Quezon City teen deaths to 'Tokhang mindset'
Disbanded task force showed same mentality as controversial drug war operations, says opposition lawmaker. De Lima calls for scrutiny of authority given to enforcement personnel.

MANILA — Opposition Representative Leila de Lima on Friday called for accountability following the deaths of three teenagers in Quezon City, citing similarities to the controversial "Tokhang" operations of the drug war.
De Lima said the disbandment of the city government's Task Force Disiplina was the appropriate response after one of its enforcers was linked to the killings. She argued that the incident reflected the same mindset that characterized anti-drug operations during the previous administration's war on drugs.
"Those who hold positions of power and authority in such organizations must be carefully screened," De Lima stated. The lawmaker emphasized the need for stricter oversight and selection processes to prevent abuses by enforcement personnel.
The incident has renewed concerns about the conduct of local task forces and their enforcement activities. De Lima's remarks underscore broader questions about accountability and proper vetting procedures for officers granted coercive powers in community enforcement operations.
The case has prompted local officials to review policies governing such task forces and the authority delegated to their members.
