Deadly fire at Chilean nursing home claims 16 lives

A devastating fire at a nursing home in the Araucanía region of central Chile has resulted in the deaths of 16 residents, authorities confirmed. The incident marked one of the deadliest such incidents at a care facility in the country in recent years.

Emergency responders were able to evacuate ten people from the facility during the rescue operation, though details regarding their condition were not immediately available. Firefighting crews worked to contain the blaze and prevent further loss of life.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Araucanía region, located south of the capital Santiago, encompasses several municipalities and has been the site of previous emergencies affecting vulnerable populations.
