Death toll from Nepal floods surges past 1,400 across region

The death toll from catastrophic flooding in Nepal has climbed to 1,357, with authorities warning that the final count may rise significantly as rescue operations continue across affected regions.

In neighbouring China, at least 43 people have been confirmed dead, while 519 remain missing following the deluge. The combined toll across both nations now stands at 1,400 confirmed deaths, with approximately 5,845 people unaccounted for.

Search and rescue teams are working around the clock to locate missing persons as heavy rains continue to complicate recovery efforts. The flooding has displaced thousands of families and caused widespread infrastructure damage across the mountainous terrain.

Authorities in both countries have mobilised emergency response teams and are coordinating cross-border assistance efforts. Humanitarian organisations warn that the scale of the disaster may strain relief resources across the region in the coming weeks.
