MALASIQUI, Pangasinan — The death toll from an explosion and fire at a suspected illegal fireworks factory in this Pangasinan municipality has risen to five, following the recovery of another body at the blast site on Thursday.

Authorities discovered the additional remains during ongoing search and recovery operations at the facility in Calasiao. The newly-recovered victim joins two minors and two adults previously identified among the fatalities.

The explosion, which destroyed the manufacturing plant, sent shock waves across the residential area, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Bureau of Fire Protection and local police units have been conducting investigations to determine the exact cause of the blast.

The facility has been identified as a suspected illegal fireworks factory operating without proper permits or safety compliance. Authorities are examining whether violations of explosive materials handling regulations contributed to the disaster.
