Death toll from southwest monsoon reaches 33 in Philippines

MANILA — The death toll from the southwest monsoon continues to climb, with the Office of Civil Defense confirming 33 fatalities attributed to the habagat as of Monday.
OCD Director Gregorio Tomas disclosed the grim statistics during a press conference, noting that the disaster has extended beyond fatal casualties. The official reported that 19 additional people sustained injuries from monsoon-related incidents, while search and rescue operations are ongoing for three missing persons.
The habagat, which typically brings heavy rains and strong winds to the Philippines during summer months, has affected millions across the nation. Authorities have intensified monitoring and response efforts in vulnerable areas as the monsoon season continues.
The OCD remains coordinated with other disaster response agencies to provide assistance to affected communities and families of those impacted by the severe weather system.
