Race organisers Decathlon have shortened the Kiprun half-marathon to a 10-kilometre course in response to worsening haze conditions in Singapore. The decision comes as air quality levels have prompted concerns about participant safety during endurance events.
While the primary race distance has been reduced, the 10-kilometre, 5-kilometre, and Kids Dash categories will proceed at their originally scheduled lengths. However, the awards ceremony has been cancelled as part of the event modifications.
The haze, which has affected air quality across the region, has prompted various public health and safety advisories. The shortened format allows Decathlon to proceed with the event while minimising health risks to runners, particularly those who would have competed in the longer half-marathon distance.
Participants registered for the half-marathon will now compete over the revised 10-kilometre distance. Further details regarding refunds or alternative race options were not immediately clarified by organisers.
