Deepavali holiday exodus triggers congestion on major KL highways

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Malaysia's major highways experienced significant traffic buildup from 10am today as motorists embarked on journeys for the Deepavali festivities, with the KL-Karak and PLUS expressways bearing the brunt of the holiday rush.

The surge in traffic volume reflected the traditional pattern of urban dwellers travelling to hometowns and rural areas to celebrate the Hindu festival with family and friends. Authorities had anticipated heavy congestion during this peak travel period and deployed traffic management personnel to key stretches.

Motoring associations advised travellers to exercise caution and plan their journeys strategically, noting that congestion typically intensifies during late morning and early afternoon hours. Drivers were encouraged to avoid peak times where possible and to ensure their vehicles were in proper working condition before undertaking long-distance travel.

The holiday traffic buildup is expected to persist over the coming days as more Malaysians take to the roads for Deepavali celebrations, with return traffic anticipated following the festive period.
