Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to conduct a comprehensive performance review of 16 defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) as the sector posts impressive financial metrics for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
According to the Defence Ministry, the 16 DPSUs recorded combined turnover of ₹1.29 lakh crore, representing a 15.4% increase from the previous financial year. The cumulative profit after tax stood at ₹23,136 crore, reflecting year-on-year growth of 15.6%, underscoring the sector's strengthening financial health.
The performance gains have been bolstered by a dramatic surge in defence exports, which grew by 151.2% compared to FY 2024-25. The sharp expansion in overseas sales demonstrates enhanced manufacturing capabilities and India's growing presence in global defence markets.
The defence sector's robust performance aligns with the government's broader push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India, in critical defence manufacturing and technology domains. The export surge particularly reflects increased international demand for Indian defence equipment and systems.
The ministerial review will assess operational efficiency, production targets, and strategic initiatives across the 16 DPSUs, which form the backbone of India's domestic defence industrial base.
