The Defence Ministry has cleared a significant defence acquisition programme valued at Rs 1.1 lakh crore, marking a major push towards strengthening India's armed forces across all three services. The approvals, formally granted as Acceptance of Necessity (AoN), represent a comprehensive modernisation initiative spanning the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
Under the approved procurement plan, approximately 98 percent of the equipment and systems will be sourced from domestic manufacturers and suppliers. The move aligns with the government's broader Make in India initiative and aims to bolster the country's defence industrial base while reducing dependence on foreign defence imports.
