The Defence Ministry has notified the sixth positive indigenisation list, comprising 405 items earmarked for production within India rather than through imports. The list includes line replaceable units, sub-systems, sub-assemblies, spare parts, components and raw materials essential for defence operations.
Of the total items identified, 16 are designated for use by the Indian Coast Guard, while the remaining 389 fall under the purview of defence public sector undertakings. This categorisation reflects the government's strategy to develop domestic manufacturing capabilities across both naval and general defence sectors.
The positive indigenisation list forms part of a broader government initiative to strengthen India's defence industrial base and promote self-reliance in military equipment production. Previous lists have similarly identified defence components and materials for local sourcing, progressively reducing the armed forces' reliance on overseas suppliers.
Official sources indicate the measure aligns with the government's broader "Make in India" agenda, particularly within the defence manufacturing sector. By identifying specific items for domestic production, the initiative seeks to encourage private and public sector participation in meeting the country's defence requirements through indigenous means.
