KUALA LUMPUR — The Ministry of Defence intends to restructure the landscape of military veterans' organisations by consolidating more than 300 separate associations operating across the country, according to Defence Minister Adly Zahari.
The consolidation initiative seeks to enhance the delivery of support services and financial assistance to retired armed forces personnel and their dependents, addressing fragmentation that has hampered coordination efforts. By bringing these associations under a more unified framework, the ministry aims to eliminate duplication and streamline administrative processes.
Adly Zahari indicated that the proposed restructuring would enable MINDEF to better identify and cater to the needs of veterans, ensuring that available resources are distributed equitably and efficiently. The move reflects growing recognition that the current fragmented system has created gaps in service delivery to Malaysia's retired military community.
While specific timelines for implementation were not disclosed, the minister's announcement suggests the defence establishment is prioritizing improved welfare mechanisms for former servicemen. The consolidation would represent one of the most significant reforms to veterans' affairs administration in recent years.
