Delhi's air quality showed marked improvement on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recording a reading of 93, categorized as moderate. The improvement came after rainfall swept across the national capital, helping disperse accumulated pollutants and reduce particulate matter in the atmosphere.
A senior BJP minister credited the improvement to targeted enforcement actions undertaken by the state government, citing measures such as stricter emission controls and construction site monitoring. However, meteorologists noted that precipitation remained the primary factor contributing to the improved readings, as rain naturally cleanses the air of suspended particles.
The moderate AQI reading provided temporary relief to residents, though air quality experts cautioned that seasonal factors would likely drive pollution levels higher again as winter approaches. Delhi typically experiences severe air quality deterioration from October through January due to crop stubble burning in neighboring states, vehicular emissions, and meteorological conditions that trap pollutants.
Citizens were advised to remain cautious despite the current improvement, with health authorities recommending continued use of protective masks for vulnerable populations. Environmental agencies emphasized that sustained improvement would require comprehensive long-term strategies addressing pollution sources.
