Delhi airport diverts 15 flights as severe weather disrupts operations
Adverse weather conditions including thunderstorms and heavy rains forced Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to divert at least 15 flights on Monday. Over 280 services faced delays while more than 20 flights were cancelled due to the inclement conditions.

A spike in weather-related disruptions hit India's busiest airport on Monday as thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds swept across the national capital. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) diverted 12 flights to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow, according to airport officials. Scores of additional services experienced delays or cancellations throughout the day.
Data from flight tracking service Flightradar24 indicated that over 280 flights were delayed at the airport, with more than 20 services cancelled entirely. Wind speeds of 30-40 kilometres per hour accompanied the rainfall, contributing to the operational challenges. The diversions and delays affected major carriers operating from the airport.
IndiGo and Air India issued advisories regarding the weather impact on flight schedules, with both carriers noting they were monitoring conditions closely. The IGIA, which typically handles more than 1,300 flight movements daily, saw significant operational strain as meteorological conditions persisted throughout Monday. Airlines advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
