Delhi's main airport operator filed a First Information Report on Wednesday against 63 social media accounts for circulating misleading posts about flooding at the facility. The FIR was registered after accounts shared factually incorrect claims and altered videos depicting waterlogging and suggesting operational disruptions at the airport.
On September 4, Terminal 3's arrival forecourt experienced temporary water accumulation following heavy rainfall in the national capital. However, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) clarified that airport operations continued unaffected during the incident, with the situation fully resolved within 20 minutes.
Among the problematic posts identified, DIAL said one account had claimed a video of waterlogging at Dubai airport was footage from Delhi airport. The operator said the circulation of such misleading content through social media platforms caused unnecessary concern and damaged the airport's reputation.
The move reflects growing efforts by major infrastructure operators in India to combat misinformation on social media platforms. DIAL said the FIR was lodged with Delhi Police to prevent further spread of false claims about airport conditions and service disruptions.
