Delhi authorities close Connaught Place park ahead of tricolour march

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has issued orders to keep Central Park at Connaught Place closed to the public on October 16 and 17 in advance of a major tricolour march planned for the area.

The march, titled 'Lahrao Tiranga' (Hoist the Tricolour), is being organised by the Citizenship and Justice Project and is scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. on October 16. Founder Abhijit Dipke has called for mass participation in the event.

The civic authority's decision to restrict public access to the central Delhi landmark reflects preparations for what organisers expect to be a significant gathering. The two-day closure will provide space for the march route and associated arrangements.

Connaught Place, one of Delhi's most frequented commercial and leisure destinations, regularly hosts public events and gatherings. The temporary closure is unlikely to significantly impact commercial activity in the surrounding business district, which remains operational during such civic events.
