Delhi Authorities Seal Three Illegal Dhobi Ghats Over Yamuna Pollution

Authorities in the national capital have sealed three illegal dhobi ghats as part of a systematic crackdown on facilities contaminating the Yamuna river. The enforcement action followed comprehensive inspections that identified critical lapses in wastewater treatment protocols and failure to obtain mandatory environmental clearances.

The sealed establishments were found to be operating without adherence to prescribed environmental standards. Inspectors discovered that the facilities were not using approved soaps and detergents as mandated by regulations, and lacked proper treatment infrastructure to manage discharge before it reached the river.

The crackdown reflects growing concern over industrial pollution in the Yamuna, one of India's most polluted waterways. Dhobi ghats, which process large quantities of textiles daily, are considered significant contributors to river contamination when operated without proper environmental controls.

Authorities indicated that inspections across dhobi ghat operations in Delhi will continue, with enforcement action against non-compliant facilities. Officials have directed remaining laundry operations to ensure full compliance with environmental clearance requirements and implement proper wastewater treatment systems to prevent further deterioration of the river's water quality.
