Delhi Bar Seeks BS-IV Vehicle Exemption for Advocates and Judges

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has formally written to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Justice seeking relief from an anticipated ban on BS-IV vehicles, citing operational difficulties for its members. In the letter addressed by DHCBA President N Hariharan, the association emphasized that a significant number of advocates and judges regularly commute across state borders for professional duties, making vehicle restrictions particularly challenging for the legal fraternity.

The plea underscores the practical implications of stringent emission norms for legal professionals who depend on personal transportation for attending hearings, court appearances, and client meetings across the Delhi-NCR region. The association has argued that a blanket ban without exemptions for essential service providers would create undue hardship.

The letter to both the administrative and judicial heads of Delhi reflects growing concerns within professional bodies regarding the implementation of stricter environmental regulations. Similar appeals have been witnessed from other sectors as authorities move toward enforcing the BS-VI emission standard across the country.

The request now awaits consideration from the office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Justice of India's office, which oversees Delhi High Court operations. The outcome may set a precedent for how regulatory bodies balance environmental concerns with the operational requirements of essential professional services.
