Delhi begins reverification of 4.7 million voters dropped from electoral rolls

Poll authorities in Delhi have initiated reverification procedures for more than 47 lakh voters struck from the draft electoral rolls published on August 31, Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar announced Friday. The reverification exercise aims to rectify errors made during the enumeration phase and prevent genuine voters from being excluded from final voter lists.

The reverification comes amid complaints that names of living voters and those residing at their registered addresses were incorrectly removed from the draft rolls during the special intensive revision (SIR) process. Kumar said booth-level officers have been directed to re-examine voters whose names did not appear in the draft rolls following the enumeration phase.

"Our efforts are to ensure that no genuine voter's name is omitted in the final voters lists that will be published on December 4," Kumar told reporters. The election body has also resolved approximately 25 lakh cases out of 33.12 lakh in which voters were issued notices for non-mapping or logical discrepancies.

The reverification process represents a corrective measure to address gaps in the ongoing electoral roll revision, with booth-level officers conducting door-to-door verification to cross-check the status of affected voters before the final publication of electoral rolls next month.
