Delhi braces for more October rainfall as orange alert issued

The India Meteorological Department has placed Delhi under an orange alert as western disturbances bring additional rainfall to the capital this month. The October showers are expected despite the ongoing withdrawal of the southwest monsoon across the country.

Delhi is expected to receive more rainfall in October as weather systems unrelated to the main monsoon season continue to influence the region's weather patterns. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the capital, signalling the likelihood of significant precipitation in the coming days.

The additional rainfall is attributed to western disturbances and other meteorological phenomena rather than the retreating southwest monsoon, which has been progressively withdrawing from across India. These western disturbances, which originate in the Atlantic and move eastward, occasionally bring moisture and rainfall to northern India even as the main monsoon season concludes.

October typically marks the transition from the monsoon period to the post-monsoon season in most parts of India. However, weather systems such as western disturbances can produce rainfall and thunderstorms during this month, particularly in northern regions including Delhi and its adjoining areas. Residents have been advised to remain prepared for wet weather conditions as the alert remains in effect.
