Delhi Cabinet green-lights ₹1,790 crore smart traffic overhaul

The Delhi Cabinet has given its nod to an ambitious ₹1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) designed to modernize the city's congested road network. The project will deploy advanced technologies including real-time data analytics, artificial intelligence-powered signal systems, and automated enforcement mechanisms across 42 major traffic corridors, with implementation targeted for completion within 24 months.

The ITMS initiative represents a significant shift in how Delhi approaches urban mobility challenges. By integrating live traffic data collection with adaptive signal control, the system aims to optimize traffic flow during peak and off-peak hours, reducing bottlenecks on some of the city's most congested routes. Automated enforcement capabilities will supplement traditional traffic management, enhancing compliance with traffic rules across the designated corridors.
