Delhi Census 2027 Phase 2 to launch January 10 with self-enumeration window

The Delhi administration is set to launch the second phase of Census 2027 on January 10, officials confirmed on Thursday following a high-level meeting chaired by the chief secretary. The staggered approach will allow residents to submit information independently during a 15-day self-enumeration period from January 10 to 24, before field enumerators commence door-to-door surveys from January 25 onwards.

The house-to-house enumeration exercise will conclude by February 28, followed by a revisional round scheduled from March 1 to 5 to address any gaps or discrepancies in data collection. Census officials indicated that the phased timeline aims to maximise accuracy while managing the operational complexity of surveying Delhi's large population.

Citizens participating in Census 2027's second phase will be required to provide responses to 40 questions spanning various demographic parameters, including caste—marking the first time this data has been collected since the 1931 census. The inclusion of caste enumeration represents a significant shift in India's decennial census methodology.

The first phase of Census 2027, which concluded on June 14, documented nearly 76 lakh houses and approximately 55 lakh households across Delhi. Enumerators recorded that more than 2.3 crore people were ordinarily residing in the national capital during the initial phase, providing a baseline for the comprehensive second phase now set to begin.
