Delhi Chief Minister Orders Crackdown on Illegal Construction in PG Sector

Delhi's Chief Minister has ordered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to launch an intensive crackdown on illegal constructions, particularly targeting paying guest accommodations throughout the city. The directive, issued this week, requires civic authorities to conduct systematic inspections and identify unauthorised structures that have been erected within residential and commercial zones.

As part of the enforcement operation, senior officials from the MCD have been instructed to remain present on the ground during demolition and corrective action, ensuring compliance with building regulations. The administration is also examining municipal records to determine when illegal constructions were permitted and under whose jurisdiction responsibility lies, with a view to establishing accountability among officials and agencies involved.

The paying guest sector in Delhi has long been a concern for municipal authorities, with numerous facilities operating without proper regulatory oversight or adherence to building codes. Wednesday's enforcement action marked the commencement of what officials described as a sustained campaign to eliminate unauthorised structures across multiple zones of the city.
