Delhi chief minister orders emergency H1N1 review as cases surge

Delhi's health authorities are stepping up their response to a growing influenza outbreak, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordering an emergency review of the situation amid rising case numbers. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said Delhi has documented approximately 3,000 influenza cases this year, of which 2,308 are confirmed H1N1 infections.

Speaking after a review meeting with senior health officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council, and the Delhi Cantonment Board, Singh sought to reassure residents that the situation remained manageable. "There is no problem of doctors, staff or medicines. Everything is under control," Singh said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The emergency review meeting was convened to assess existing arrangements and preparedness for H1N1 and seasonal influenza, as well as vector-borne diseases across the capital. Singh emphasized that patients with suspected influenza were receiving adequate treatment and care. "Isolation wards have been established and patients are being treated appropriately," he added, urging the public against unnecessary alarm.

Health authorities have maintained that adequate medical personnel and pharmaceutical supplies remain available to manage the current caseload. Officials have advised residents experiencing flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention promptly rather than self-treat.
