A contentious session of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) dissolved into disorder on Tuesday as councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Indian National Congress engaged in heated confrontations over civic issues.
The disruption centred on discussions regarding development allocations and pollution-related matters. Video footage from the chamber showed councillors snatching microphones from one another, engaging in heated verbal exchanges, and shoving each other on the assembly floor.
The situation deteriorated when several councillors attempted to approach the mayor's seat, prompting security personnel to intervene. Mayor Pravin Vahi was safely escorted out of the chamber as tensions escalated further.
The incident underscores ongoing political friction within Delhi's municipal administration, where the AAP and Congress have frequently clashed over governance priorities and resource allocation. Such disruptions have become increasingly common in the civic body's proceedings over contested budget and infrastructure matters.
