Delhi civic body suspends five officials over deadly hostel building collapse
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has suspended a senior administrator and four engineers following the collapse of a five-storey residential building in south Delhi that killed seven people and injured multiple others.

The MCD Vigilance Department on Monday issued suspension orders against South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer Ranvir Singh, Executive Engineer (Building) Lalit Kumar Goel, Assistant Engineer (Building) Sunil Chauhan and Junior Engineer (Building) Ashish Kumar, all attached to the civic body's South Zone.
The suspensions were ordered by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's commissioner under the DMC Services (Control and Appeal) Regulations, 1959, and took effect immediately. The action follows Sunday's collapse of a decades-old residential building housing a boys' hostel in Satya Niketan, a south Delhi locality.
The five-storey structure gave way without warning, killing seven residents and injuring several others. The incident triggered immediate scrutiny into the building's safety compliance and the oversight mechanisms that failed to detect structural weaknesses in the aging structure.
According to the suspension orders accessed by news agencies, the officials have been placed under suspension with immediate effect under Regulation 5(2) of the relevant rules, pending disciplinary proceedings. The MCD stated that the suspended personnel will continue to receive stipulated allowances during the investigation into the collapse.
