Delhi civic body to procure 98,500 anti-rabies vaccine vials

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has cleared the acquisition of 98,500 vials of anti-rabies vaccine following approval on Monday. This procurement forms a key component of the civic body's larger vaccination programme, which targets the acquisition of 1.20 lakh anti-rabies vaccine vials over a 24-month period.

The staggered procurement strategy reflects the MCD's commitment to maintaining adequate stocks of the critical immunological resource across its healthcare facilities. Anti-rabies vaccines are essential for post-exposure prophylaxis following animal bites, particularly in urban areas where stray animal populations present a public health concern.

The phased approach to vaccine acquisition allows the corporation to manage storage and distribution logistics while ensuring optimal utilisation of resources. By spreading purchases across two years, the MCD can adjust procurement volumes based on demand patterns and epidemiological data.

This initiative underscores ongoing efforts by Delhi's municipal administration to strengthen preventive healthcare infrastructure and reduce rabies-related mortality in the city. The vaccine procurement aligns with broader public health objectives to minimise communicable disease risks among the urban population.
